HOWDY!

I just wanted to stop by and drop you a quick note! I have been suffering from Vertigo for the last few days, it stopped me from going to a rocknroll concert on Saturday night with a girlfriend from Highschool. :( I went to the Dr. yesterday and got some medicine hopefully it will be better soon. I also scheduled; a bone density test, an mri of my brain, (I want to see what is really going on in there), and a ultrasound of my thyroid and surrounding tissue. That is one of the great things about living in this day of modern technology, I get to see my insides too.

I did finish sewing on the other sleeve and the side seam now all I need to do is sew the hem and stitch the bottom of the sleeve bands, sew on the velcro, and do the beading work and the doll dress will be done!

I have one of Nikki's showers coming up this weekend, so I want to make something for that too. I have bought tons of materials (imagine that, LOL) I just have to figure out what I want to do with them. I am very limited on that as I won't have the money to buy any materials I may need. Because when I get my social security check this weekend, due to a bank overdraft situation I will only get $650 and my bills come to exactly $600, so it will be ugly trying to get cat food, dog food, kitty litter, bird seed, gas money, and groceries for the month on that $50. Say a prayer for me on that little matter too. K?

I am on my way to Nikki's to bake, bake, bake! We have a dozen cakes for the weekend and the April special cakes that I baked yesterday both fell in the middle! ARGH! You heard me they were flatter that a pancake in the middle. I read through the internet and it seems there may have been a couple of things I did wrong, go figure. They did taste delicious though, just sayin!

Talk at you later, have a great day! It is sunny here how about you.

Good morning!

As usual sorry I haven't been on for a couple of days. Has anyone out there ever suffered from Vertigo? I woke up Sat. morning so dizzy I couldn't get out of bed, which was a problem because I had to go to the bathroom. When it passed I drove to Nikki's and I made 3 pies for our hobby bakery. Luckily she had some dramamine and it seemed to help. I Made 2 apple pies and one banana cream pie. She worked on the figures for some of the cakes coming up this week. we have bulls eye cupcakes to go along with a dead deer, bow and arrow, hunting birthday cake for an 8 year old boy, a wrestling cake for a grown man, baby cake pops and a stacked tiered (Nikki explained this to me as two 10 inch layers with 2 8 inch layers on top, a layer cake is simply one layer of each size! who knew?) cake for a baby shower, Nikki's.

I have a Dr.s appt. this morning, I had made it a couple of weeks ago, for a cold nose! Yes you heard me right, my nose gets so cold I can't stand it. I will be sitting in my house and out of no where my nose will get freezing cold. Not my feet, not my hands, but my nose. Go figure, I have a little lump on my thyroid and flaking peeling nails all of these are symptoms of thyroid problems. I am glad because now I should be able to get some Vertigo meds too. I had some before, but I haven't needed it for so long I lost it. I have suffered from Vertigo for years my first episode was way back when Tracie, my oldest daughter was a little girl. She is 42 and my first attack was when she was 5. I have suffered on and off with it for 30+ years. It only comes every few years praise the LORD!

I did work on Jessica's doll dress

and should be able to get it done today. We have cake decorating class tonight. So hopefully I will check in again tomorrow.

Have a wonderful sunny day and a Blessed week.

I am still stuck on the Irish Quotes, so here it is, enjoy.

Happy Hump Day

Good morning, sorry I haven't been on for awhile! The home bakery business kicked my butt! I am not used to putting in 17 hour days and I have been pretty much been sleeping around the clock since Sunday, as we completed our orders on Saturday.

I hope to get the doll dress done today and I will share it later today or tomorrow.

I volunteered for our area's Stephenson County Teen Conference yesterday. It was interesting. There were 3 schools invited; they were Freeport schools 8th grade, Lena-Winslow 8th grade, and Aquin Catholic Schools 8th grade. They did crafts in our area and went to listen to speakers, they received pamphlets about giving back and volunteering to help others less fortunate! It is truly a great idea, and for the most part it was well received! There were two groups and they came in at different times. There were 6 different craft areas set up, the first was for making birdfeeders, rolling pinecones on a ribbon into peanut butter and then into bird seed, fun and simple, I don't know where these were going as all the craft areas were being donated to an area organization. The next was taking wooden blocks and painting them different bright colors, these were being given to the Health Dept. and to Headstart for screening of children. I don't know what the next site was for it was assembling coloring pictures to construction paper and making little booklets, I saw the one was about feeling angry, so I am wondering if it maybe went to Voices, our area's organization for helping families of domestic abuse. There was a stations set up for the kids to wrap floral tape around fake flowers and putting them into flower pots making bright cheery arrangements for area nursing homes I think. There were 3 tables set up for the children to write thank you letters to our Service men and women. and last but not least there were two stations set up for the kids to assemble little fleece blankets for the pregnancy center, they were two sided, a different co-ordinating fleece on each side and the material had already been cut into strips on the edges, the children simply tied knots with the strips and assembled them into finished blankets. All of the kids were pretty good about working in our area, some were much faster that others and some lost interest when they found out they weren't taking the blankets home. LOL. But in the very last group we had a young girl with a very bad attitude! I mean she was so angry and disrespectful, not to me and the lady I was helping, but to her teachers. She was so lippy I just wanted to shake her or talk to her. Unfortunately this was not my job. I did talk to her and she begrudgingly answered me. I complimented her on her work even though it was only haphazard. She would mumble under her breath out loud and make her feeling well know. It made me sad that such a young girl was so angry and disturbed and acting out like that. I wondered what her home life must be, I always see kids that are friendly and helpful outside of their homes. Maybe they are brats at home but not in public usually. So this was a real eye opener for me. I pray for her and her family. All in all it was a good experience. I wish there was someway they could screen the kids they include in these programs, to the ones that care and want to be there.

Well I have a Dr.'s appointment this morning so I better get busy. Have a great day, and I will talk at you later.

I so enjoyed the Irish quote I used on St. Patty's day I wanted to share a few more.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Guess what, I am in a hurry this morning, got a lot of baking to do. So I don't have a lot of time , but I am taking my computer along to work on my breaks and get a new post out today.

But in the spirit of the day I wanted to share this beautiful quote with you this morning and I wish it for your whole lives through!

Talk at you later, have a great day!

“May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.”

HAPPY HAPPY MONDAY/WEDNESDAY

Good morning,

I hope you had a great weekend, I know I did! Although it was hectic, it was rewarding. I know you must be on pins and needles wondering if I finished my blanket? Well the answer is yes!!!!!!!! I know right? I am as surprised as you, as much as I procrastinated I did manage to finish it! YAY me. Of course I finished it 20 minutes before the shower started, but the point is I did finish it.

Praise the Lord, I have a sewing machine that has pre-programmed stitches, I used the blanket stitch, No. 16, and it turned out good. I was not sure about how puckery the satin binding was in a few places and the ending corner didn't turn out as well as I hoped. (the perfectionist thing again.)

This sewing machine was only $100 at Walmart, a wonderful investment. It is a brother Project Runway model.

Now for your next question, Yes, she loved it!

When I wrapped it, I folded it fluffy side out, so when she pulled it out all she saw was ivory, as she opened it and she saw the toile her mouth dropped and she looked at me and said "did make this?" when I shook my head yes she said "oh, I love toile, and nursery rhymes, how perfect, oh thank you so much" I told her, "I know I was so excited when I found the material and then when I heard about the shower I knew I had to make it for you!" After the shower a few of her friends walked up and looked at it and commented on how soft it was and it was sure to be the baby's favorite. On the way home, my daughter asked me if I heard Esther say she was going to ask me to make something for her older daughter! LOL

Now back to the hectic part of the weekend, we had to finish the cupcakes for the shower, we had made the toppers earlier in the week so we didn't have to worry about them. I was going to finish the blanket on Saturday morning, in time for the shower, when my daughter called me and told me the toppers were cracking and breaking as she tried to put them on the frosted cupcakes. She was frantic, so I packed up my project, my clothes and headed in. When I got there it wasn't as bad as she thought and she called a friend of hers that has his own home bakery, he told her we needed to store the fondant at room temp. We had refrigerated it. So, lesson learned. (we had many more lessons learned over the weekend and I will get to them tomorrow) I rolled out new toppers and then we had to decorate them, but all was well, and we finished the biggest share of them by 11:30 and she left for the party to decorate and set up. I finished the remaining cupcakes, finished my blanket, and took my shower and got ready to go. I arrived at the shower 10 minutes late but they hadn't started yet, thank goodness. Shortly after I got there Nikki started the shower by letting us eat first, yay. What a good idea that was. Normally everyone gets antsy after awhile, waiting for the cake etc., but not this party. A number of people had brought finger food; there was a veggie tray with dips, chips and salsa, a fruit platter, a wonderful bean salad, with 3 different types of beans, chopped peppers and onions, whole kernel corn, cilantro and a mild chipolte dressing (YUMMO), mints, nuts, and the cupcakes, did I mention the cupcakes were Devils food with a hoho filling and chocolate buttercream icing, and French vanilla with a strawberry cream filling and cream cheese frosting, (YUMMO) and chocolate or vanilla icecream, with coffee and sherbert punch!!!!! What a feast, which was good because I had not eaten breakfast or lunch.

Didn't the toppers turn out too cute?

We played a couple of games and visited, all in all it was a wonderful shower. The mom to be said she was she was embarrassed about much she had gotten! I don't know if she never had a shower or what, but I told her she was silly.

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to post this, I have been trying since Monday! My Chrome kept crashing, so I would start to write in again and it crashed again. The third time I was simply gonna post the pictures and write the descriptions later, but again it crashed. Then we got busy with the bakery, so I tried to get something done between oven batches! Then my lovely daughter Nikki told me that blogger automatically backs up and save your posts for just such emergencys! Yay!!!!!! I still had to edit the pictures in and out but here it is!

I already have a bunch of stuff to talk about for this week! We have been busy, but having fun!

I am going to try to get busy on Jessica's Easter dress and her baby doll's dress too! So as usual keep your fingers crossed!

Have a great day! Talk at you later!

WOW!

I just want to let you know, yesterday kicked my butt!

I went to Rockford with Nikki at 9 am we needed to get supplies and our Joann's is very small and naturally doesn't carry the supplies we need. Plus there were some great coupons for Michael's Craft store, one for 50% off yesterday only, and another for 40%. Nikki and I each used both coupons and got great deals on some new toys for our business venture.

I will post pictures later, but it should be fun expanding our capabilities.

When we got back at around 11:30 I started cleaning her kitchen from the mess we had left the night before. I try to clean up my dishes and work areas as I go, but it was so late that night and I was so tired we just left it. As I was cleaning I started baking cakes and cupcakes. I baked four cakes and 2 dozen cupcakes. The saving grace to this is that Nikki has a built in double oven I made Gum Paste (a type of fondant) and cleaned the refrigerator freezer and the deep freezer so we had room for the cakes and cupcakes. I then organized the 3 season porch so we had room to store the cakes while they were cooling and waiting to be decorated.

I then started to clean off the movable island in her kitchen and move the microwave, and espresso machine, plus the coffee maker. I got started, but did not finish, I will finish that today. I am going in to help finish the cupcake toppers that I pictured the other day for the baby shower.

Nikki had gone to a meeting with another home bakery business owner and the owner of a made to order kitchen. The gal that has the kitchen is thinking about expanding and including bakery items in her menu. So I did all my work while she was gone and my grandson was such a little angel he played on the computer and watched his tv shows.

When Nikki got home she got busy with assembling the cakes, we had 7 Creme de Menthe cakes to deliver last night. This cake is our March special, $8 for an 8 inch specialty cake.

I continued to clean as she frosted. We got them all done around 7 p.m. I want you to know I have not stood for that many hours since I lost my factory job in 2004. I did not sit down that whole time. I told Nikki I am gonna have to pace myself, she is pregnant and I am old! We need to take it easy.

I am going to assemble my baby blanket right now, as soon as I post this. I have to have it done by Saturday. I think I put these things off, because I am afraid of failure. Which takes us back to the whole perfectionist conversation! I see what I want my final project to look like in my minds eye, and if it does not turn out the same then I feel it is not up to par!

So fingers crossed I will show you the finished project tomorrow!

Have a wonderful day! It is cloudy and overcast today, but I woke up and that is always a good thing.

Good morning

Hello, How are you this fine morning? No sunshine here sort of cloudy, but still light so a step in the right direction.

Yesterday was a mixed bag. I did get my fabrics cut out and pinned together. My biggest quandary now is, what sort of pattern do I quilt my toile fabric with? I looked a some online patterns and I liked a number of them, but they were pretty intricate and I am doing mine manually on an old sewing machine. Did you know that you can buy sewing machines for 7 to 8 hundred dollars and more that you can program to do the whole job all by themselves? Sorry, not in my budget! I think I have decided on X's and O's, I figured that would be pretty simple and cute, hugs and kisses for babies, right? So fingers crossed and lots of prayers that I can make it work. Did I mention that I am a perfectionist? Makes life very difficult at times!

The rest of yesterday was spent with my daughter Nikki, we went to a number of stores and priced ingredients and competitor pricing for our bakery. We found that we were way under-priced for some items. We will adjust our prices as we figure out our cost more closely.

Our orders for the Creme de Menthe Cakes has gone through the roof we now have 10 orders for this weekend, 3 dozen decorated cupcakes for the babyshower on Saturday and 2 birthday cakes for Sunday! Yippee!

And last but not least last night, was our first cake decorating class! It was fun, and the instructor was so sweet and nice! We worked with fondant, gum paste, and gum paste glue! Another cake/cheese cake baker that my daughter knows was also in the class with his wife. Between him and our instructor we got a number of very helpful tips for our projects for the weekend. I can't wait to share our finished projects with you. We made big old bows last night, and we are working on flowers at the next meeting! There are 13 in the class so it was a very big class, and a lot of fun.

I went with my daughter who is 6 months pregnant and her friend Esther who is 8 months pregnant and guess what I went to the bathroom 3 times to their once! My poor bladder must be the size of a pea! LOL

Oh, YAY, the sun is out. I am excited. It is time to get my trash out the curb, so I will sign off for now and check back later. Later today I am going to Nikki's and we are working on the cakes and the cupcakes decorations, this is what we want to do for the baby shower! I will post our's when we get them done.

Good morning!

Good morning everyone!

I have beautiful sunshine where I live, how about you?

Yesterday morning was my grandson Michaiah's, Cai for short, first indoor soccer game. He really enjoys soccer, now keeping in mind he is only 5. He just finished basketball and he liked dribbling and shooting baskets, but the rest of it seemed to bore him. I told my daughter you spend their formative years teaching them not to push, shove, grab toys, i.e. bballs from other kids and then you put them into a game where the goal is to push, shove, wave your hands in someone else's face, and to grab the toy, i.e. a ball. But for some reason he really likes to play soccer, and he is all about running and getting right in the middle of all these little kids trying to get the ball loose to run with it. He loves to be goalie, at least he did! That's right yesterday he asked to be goalie in the practice session where the other kids were trying to kick goals, he did great until one little boy kicked and awesome ball right into his face! Everyone cheered because it was such a good kick, I don't know if they scared Cai, or he thought they were cheering because he got hit, but he came off the court crying. Poor little guy. His dad got upset that he cried like 3 or 4 different times. How do you explain to a grown man that never cried that little kids are allowed to cry and that crying for men is not a sin? I guess this is why we are works in progress, right? God is still working on all of us.

I didn't get any crafting done yesterday, but my daughter and I did make cakes and frosting, and fondant. Here is the bakery link please check out our handiwork, and let me know, don't they look yummy?

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=49689&id=196928113664905

I bought country style pork ribs yesterday and I am going to make a big Sunday dinner at Nikki's house. BBQ ribs, mashed potatoes, peas, dinner rolls and Chocolate cake with butter-cream frosting. YUMMO!

So I will sign off for now! talk at you later.

OOPS!

Yeah, that's right, I didn't get anything done yesterday. Go figure, but the good news is I just keep adding to the mix. I had the thought that adding beads to the collar and maybe hem of the dresses would be a cute touch! Did I tell you I love sparkly/shiny/bold? Well I do and it seems the older I get the louder my tastes get! I think maybe older people do this because their eyesight starts to fail! Either that or they just want to get attention!

So, you all saw the colors in the fabric right? Well I bought a package of 'transparent AB fashion glass seed beads' there are eight colors in the package, but I will only be using the yellow, green, and orange. I know how I want it to look when I am done, we will see, I will keep you posted.

So the reason I didn't get anything done yesterday or the day before is I got my Social Security check on Thurs. and my daughter Nikki and I went to Rockford to get supplies for her bakery. We haven't even officially opened yet and she has orders up the ying yang! I signed us up for a Wilton cake decoration class, which is for Fondant and Gum Paste, you know all the fancy shmancy cakes you see on the DIY, and HG television shows? I am so excited, I have always wanted to try decorating cakes, it just figures as much as I like eating cake I would like decorating them too. Right? This weekend is all about baking, practicing and sampling. Last night while I babysat my grandson I made a from scratch coconut cream pie! That's right, no pudding from a box here! I did the cooking the half and half, the coconut milk, the sugar, cornstarch and vanilla over a hot stove for hours! (well it just seemed like hours, have you ever waited for a stirred pot to boil?) I love to make pie crust, I channel my 8th grade HomeEc teacher, thank you Mrs. Hefty, when I make my crusts, which I might add, are awesome! so flaky and yummy. So today we add the real heavy cream whipped cream topping and we are off to give out samples.

Oh yeah, did I mention I bought the stuff to make another project? DUH! I told you I can't help myself!!!!!!! Next weekend is one of my daughters friends baby showers and my daughter is the hostess. I have been trying to crochet her a gift but just don't get it done, I started and tore it out like 3 times. Well I know she loves Toile, pronounced "twaaaaal"

"Toile Fabric"
When it comes to fabric, toile - meaning fabric, cloth, or canvas in the French language - refers to a fabric with a cream or white background against which is set a repeating pattern. Traditionally the pattern in question includes a scene which tells a story. Toile is beloved not only for its unique aesthetics, but its versatility in home decor; with so many colors and patterns from which to choose it’s no wonder that toile fabric lends itself just as easily to a bedroom as it does a family room or dining room.

I just happened to find a remnant of Toile a few weeks back and I fell in love with it. No particular plans, but I just had to have it, look isn't it pretty?

It is an ivory color with a pink print that depicts Mother Goose Rhymes, I don't know if you can see it, but there is "Mother Goose, riding on her Flying Goose" "Humpty Dumpty falling off of his wall" "Jack and Jill", "Little Boy Blue", "the Cow and the Moon",

"the Dish and the Spoon" and "Little Dog Laughing to see such a sight". It is absolutely precious. So yesterday when I went shopping I picked up some very fluffy textured ivory fleece and ivory blanket binding to make a baby blanket and a piece of canvas to paint a coordinating growth chart for the nursery. So, what do you think? with my track record will I get it done on time? I can imagine the Vegas odds on that one. LOL. Say a little prayer for me to get it done. Hopefully I will show you the final results soon.

Oh and yesterday I ran to Rockford to pick up a bouncy seat for my soon to be granddaughter and then came back town to take my little grandson to lunch, we went to China Muffet (buffet) his request, and then yesterday afternoon we went to the movies and saw "Rango". I was not impressed with the movie! It was extremely dark and scary in some parts for little kids and there was unnecessary swearing! What! Go figure! They used D***. G*****, out of the blue. I don't understand why Hollywood thinks there needs to be any cussing in family movies? But this is an entirely different post!

So, I am on my way to my grandson's first indoor soccer game and then to a day of baking and playing with frosting!

Talk to you later!

Remember "This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24

TGIFriday

Good morning, How is your day going so far? I have not been doing so well the last couple of days, so I am praying for a better day! I have to run to Rockford this morning and get a baby bouncer thingy for my future granddaughter, so I will check in later. Have a wonderful day and a fun and safe weekend.

HAPPY HAPPY SUNSHINE!

Hi, how are all today? I am wonderful! I just finished lunch and I am about to work on my project, oh joy! I just read the paper ( I am of an age where I read the headlines, funnies, horoscope, and obituaries) and I am sad a friend of mine just passed away unexpectedly she was only 55! She was a sweetheart and will be greatly missed. God Bless and keep you Jan Pearson!

I am going to start on my project today, because I don't know when I will get a chance to work on it again! Did I tell you all that my daughter is starting a made to order bakery? Well she is, I think the name she has chosen is Cravings! cute right?

She just informed me we have 4 cakes to make for this weekend and 4 for next weekend! Oh happy days! 2 birthday cakes this weekend, and 2 for a charity auction, and next weekend is going to be decorated cupcakes for a baby shower and 2 more cakes for a different charity auction! How exciting right? I am really excited about working with fondant. I figure it will be a lot like working with play-doh, right? Nikki has already taken cake decorating classes and has a lot of the equipment needed, plus she learned cake decorating when she worked at Baskin-Robbins, decorating ice-cream cakes. The only problem I can see is that we are both perfectionists and we are both screamers. So this should be interesting, but fun. I will share our good and bad experiences with you I am sure they will be enjoyable.

But back to my project, I would like to finish the doll dress today so hopefully I can show you the finished project tomorrow.

Todays quote is something a friend posted on Facebook and is as follows;

Make A Difference ~
I expect to pass through this world but once.
Any kindness that I can show, let me do now,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Isn't this beautiful and true? I just had to share, for some reason it just made my day!

Have a wonderful day, I know I will

Well I finally started

Hello, I finally started my project while thinking of a dozen others I want to do! Remember when I said I had cleaned my room to get started well, I found a ton of things to do when I am done with the dresses! My little friend Bri had her baby, a beautiful little boy, named Julian! He is absolutely perfect! Now back to my project I got the

So the good news is I have the whole girls dress cut out, and half of the dolls dress cut out now I just have to sew it together.

How are your days going?

What was your favorite birthday gift when you were a kid?
